Smallville Season 9!

CW and the fans have been very excited with the ratings and responses that Smallville received this season. Writing and directing have been superb, even after Millar and Gough left the show, and even with the absence of two main characters Lex Luthor (Michael Rosenbaum) and Lana Lang (Kristin Kreuk), who left after seven seasons when their contracts ended.

Negotiations with Tom Welling have been happening since late last year, and CW president for entertainment Dawn Ostroff “hoped” the network will extend one of it’s most established series for another year. Smallville exec Darren Swimmer already has big plans for the show!

Fans overwhelmingly support an extension of the series (from a poll at Superhero Profiles). And finally, we have it!

So, thank you CW, and thank you, Tom Welling and the other cast members who are continuing onto season 9!

Just imagine what Clark Kent will be doing next year! Man, the possibilities are endless, even if they decide not to let him don the suit and fly.

With the crystal back in his possession, Clark Kent activates it but it sends him, and Lois Lane along, to the Phantom Zone! Clark reunites with Kara and she opens a door for Lois to return to earth. Unfortunately, someone escapes limbo land with Lois and takes over her body.

CW released the spoilerful episode description, and you’ll find it after the cut.

KARA RETURNS — Clark (Tom Welling) receives an anonymous package containing the crystal that Tess (Cassidy Freeman) found in the Arctic.  When he removes the crystal, it activates and sends him and a visiting Lois (Erica Durance) to the Phantom Zone where they run into Kara (guest star Laura Vandervoort).  Kara opens a portal for Lois to return but Zod’s wife Faora escapes with her and takes over Lois’ body.  A possessed Lois goes on a rampage in Metropolis.  Allison Mack, Aaron Ashmore and Justin Hartley also star.  Michael Rohl directed the episode written by Caroline Dries.

The last we saw of Kara before this episode was season 7 when Brainiac trapped her in the Phantom Zone before he went to Krypton to destroy the infant Kal El. She has been trapped there since. But in this episode, we’re spoiled that she can open a portal for Lois, so why can’t she escape as well? How does Clark go back to earth and save Lois?

At 8pm Et, “Smallville” continues with the origins of Oliver Queen/Green Arrow. Oliver is poisoned and sees his life flash.

It begins with being stranded for two years in an island, with Tess Mercer, where Oliver learns how to be skilled with the bow and arrow and swears to do good if he escapes.

Chloe uses her new powers to save Oliver and Clark is shocked, why and about what is something for us to discover.

But before we delve into tonight’s story, let’s look at highlights from last week’s episode “Plastique”. (after the cut)

Last week, several discoveries were revealed about our characters in Smallville:

• Clark Kent is now working at the Daily Planet, and saves his new boss Tess Mercer on the first day.
• Paramedic Davis Bloome (Sam Witwer) strikes a friendship with Chloe.
• Chloe is getting married, but belatedly tells Clark about it.
• At the end of the episode, we saw Bloome in an alley, naked and seemingly transforming back from a grotesque form into human.

An intergalactic queen goes looking for her soulmate in Smallville. Alas, none of the mere humans are good enough for her, so she seduces Clark Kent. Will her powers be too much for him?

The CW released the official description of the episode –

DC COMICS CHARACTER MAXIMA SETS HER SIGHTS ON CLARK — Tess (Cassidy Freeman) and her team perform tests on Clark’s (Tom Welling) crystal that she had retrieved from the arctic, causing it to send a beam of light into the universe.  This triggers the arrival of Maxima (guest star Charlotte Sullivan), a queen from the planet Almerac, who is searching for her soulmate, who she believes sent the signal.  Unfortunately, Maxima’s power is too great for  mortal men and her kiss kills them.  The seductive Maxima arrives in Metropolis and begins her search, starting with Jimmy (Aaron Ashmore).  Allison Mack and Erica Durance also star.  James Conway directed the episode written by Turi Meyer 7 Al Septien

• Instead of Smallville, the Choice TV show for Action Adventure went to Heroes.
• Instead of Kristin Kreuk, the Choice TV Actress for Action/Adventure was Hayden Panettiere of “Heroes”.
• Instead of Michael Rosenbaum, Choice TV Villain went to Ed Westwick of “Gossip Girls”.

Now what’s weird was there was no winner announced for Choice TV Actor for Action/Adventure in which Tom Welling was nominated.

This doesn’t bode very well for Smallville, which is on its last season this year.

The Lana Lang of television admitted that Smallville is the longest relationship she has had in the past 7 years. “And it has now pretty much ended.” As a way to seal the freedom, Kristin Kreuk cut off ALL her hair!

I (Kristin) just went in there on my own and Sarah (she is the key hairstylist on Smallville, and is freakin rad) tied it in a ponytail and sawed the sucker off…

The cut looks great on Kristin, but I’m surprised to find her very thin and haggard-looking in this photo. She looked different at the Comic Con last week. Maybe it’s the stress of filming a new movie.

She landed the title role for the movie adaptation of the video game “Street Fighter 4: The Legend of Chun-Li“. The film is still in productions and very few pictures have appeared… up until now…

The StreetFightermovie.net blog is up and running with pictures of the cast, some behind-the-scenes and insider look at the movie. Movieweb also has set photos of Kristin Kreuk and the other cast. And then of course, there are the YouTube images –

Just to clarify, Kristin will still appear in Smallville, in a few episodes as a guest star. She just won’t become a series regular anymore.
