Superheroes among us
Everybody loves a hero.
That’s what Peter Parker’s grandmother told him once… And maybe that’s true. We all love a hero. ‘Super’ or not. We love to be one, we love to know one, we love to be saved by one and tell the world about it too.
When we were kids, we dreamt about becoming one. We imitated them and their stories inspired us to make a difference. To save the world.
So I’m here to sort of chronicle a few of these cool superheroes. Superman and the rest of the Justice League of America. Spiderman. The X-Men. ‘Ordinary people with extraordinary abilities’ (a.k.a. NBC’s Heroes). Sure they may be characters in a TV show, movie or comic book, and merely figments of our creativitiy. Their real power, though, lie in inspiring us, making us believe a little in ourselves, and if nothing else, transporting us somewhere in our imaginations where WE are the heroes.
Every now and then, we’ll look at real heroes around us. Those who make miracles happen, of true stories of heroism, benevolence and “sacrificial” charity work that benefit our lives in the real sense.
Here’s to finding a hero in all of us!
