Where had Lana Lang (Kristin Kreuk) been hiding when she ran away from Clark Kent? Did Brainiac do something to her or change her in some twisted way, like he did Chloe?

When Lana came back to Smallville, she certainly was not the same person that left. She still liked Clark (and the feeling is still mutual), but she seemed to have found some new purpose. The Legion hinted at this – that Lana was going to help save the world, in her own way. And that she has a secret.

The trailer below hints at this secret. The clips show her being trained like a marine – being under freezing water, under a fire, and struggling some contraption she’s attached to, "to be stronger, more powerful" and fearless”.
