Is television ready for a gay superhero?

November 18, 2008 by Grace

I read from SF Universe that Stan Lee is creating a TV series for Showtime about a teenager who is keeping two secrets – being gay, and being a superhero. The concept is adapted from the Perry Moore novel “Hero“.

“Hero” is the story of Thom Creed, a high school basketball star with the power to heal people. His abilities get the attention of the League (of superheroes, I pressume) and when he joins the team the real adventure begins.

Is television ready? Some writers chime in. MTV thinks it’s a “gutsy choice” given that none of the networks are willing to launch any kind of superhero series anyway. Complex.com has a list of the existing comic book superheroes with homesexual orientations.

(Did you really think the super-chiseled men in tights running with the super-chiseled man-women were straight?)

And from Perez Hilton – Super Gay!

OK, before we get carried away, WHAT DO YOU THINK?
