“Heroes” Greg Grunberg walks DC for epilepsy

When a hero sees a situation, he becomes part of the solution. Again and again and again. Actor Greg Grunberg is that kind of a hero in real life.

He saves children’s lives. For real. When his son Jake was diagnosed with pediatric epilepsy at age 3, Grunberg began a personal quest to raise awareness and public support for this disease. Hollywood’s Helping Hands is one such outcome. Since his Alias days, Grunberg has auctioned off $350,000 worth of (and counting) greeting cards of original finger paintings made by celebrities, and donated the funds to The Pediatric Epilepsy Project (PEP).

When he became part of “Heroes”, NBC hosted an auction the show’s promotional items and the cast’s autographed character illustrations.

This time around, Grunberg heads the first-ever National Walk for Epilepsy, and on March 31, he will be one of thousands who will take a 5K walk along the Washington DC mall to bring public support and a targeted $1M funding for research.

“It is such an honor to participate in any way we can to raise awareness in the fight against epilepsy,” Grunberg said. “To be able to march on Washington with those directly effected and their families lets our family know we are not alone.”

I am honored to announce that my Classic Rock Band, THE COMMUTE, has been chosen to perform live at the first-ever National Walk For Epilepsy, the morning of Saturday, March 31, 2007, on the National Mall in Washington, DC.

I am particularily excited to be playing music for this event because I have been an epileptic for most of my life, even though my seizures are now well-controlled with medication. I can’t wait to be involved in this historic 5k walk-a-thin, that will raise funding and awareness for epilepsy research! Karie Naquin, Rockville, MD, TheCommuteBand.com

My band has been chosen once again to perform at the Second National Walk For Epilepsy, on the National Mall, Washington, DC, Saturday, march 29, 2008. Last year’s walk-a-thon (The First National Walk For Epilepsy) drew more than 5,000 participants and raised more than one million dollars for epilepsy research. Our band, now renamed “Jugglehammer” got to the Mall before dawn to haul our equipment and set up and so a sound check with the great audio guys from Event Strategies, Inc. It was so cold that Ben Blake, my bass player, wore gloves while we performed that day. (By the way, Greg Grunberg never made it to the Walk…we were told during the speeches that he was not able to fit it into his schedule). It was a glorious day, and I made so many wonderful friends, fellow sufferers of epilepsy, and those who were there in support of those they loved with epilepsy. We’ll be there again this year. http://www.walkforepilepsy.org, http://www.jugglehammer.com, http://www.youtube.com/jugglehammer
