Heroes episode 2.10 “Truth and Consequences” review
I was hoping for more from this episode of Heroes… with anticipation building from last week’s episode “Cautionary Tales“, I at least thought this pre-finale one would have more. Well, it did but not in the way I expected it.
With the writers’ strike on, and squeezing in an abortive conclusion into the “Heroes:Generations” saga, I understand, though I was still disappointed, why this episode was this way.
“Truth and Consequences” was a way to explain and tie in what’s been happening to all the heroes and what’s about to happen one week from now - the untimely end to Volume 2:Generations.
So what happened with “Truth and Consequence“?
Strain 138 of the Shanti Virus. That’s the deadly strain that Victoria Pratt, the last of the Company founders, manipulated in the 1970s as part of the Company’s experimentation with human abilities. Adam Monroe wanted that strain released as his way of ushering in a new world order, I suppose. On Kaito Nakamura’s command, their almost-immortal comrade was locked up for 30 years. Victoria asked Kaito to destroy the virus, but the young Japanese instead placed at Primatech Paper in Odessa, Texas.
Adam bid his time for revenge, and now with Peter’s help, he just might unleash this deadly disease on the whole world. Unless Hiro Nakamura stops them in time.
Has Peter gone any wiser? It doesn’t look like it! Man, and I thought he had grown up a little over the four to six months after his explosion. But his heart has once again dictated this love-sick man. (Don’t get me wrong, I love Peter, but sometimes he needs to use better judgement!). So he ends up going along for the ride with Adam, believing everything the man said, simply because Adam saved Nathan’s life once. So now, Peter is head to head with Hiro Nakamura.
Sylar has a new puppy. Sure enough, just like Sylar told Alejandro, he has Maya twisted around his finger. The poor naive girl believes him over her brother! Even without his powers, Sylar proved he is still dangerous as his evil mind twisted Maya’s loyalty and separated her from her twin. Sylar got Maya to control her powers, which means, she doesn’t need Alejandro anymore. Which means, once Sylar gets that power from her, he can control it at will too.
Monica tries to be a hero. When Micah lost his backpack to a gang, and his dad’s medals along with it, Monica tries to be hero and attempts to get it back. Unfortunately, she gets caught and now deosn’t know what to do. Apparently, she hasn’t programmed herself enough to know how to escape. Ugh.
Mohinder is bought and compromised. As Noah Bennet feared, Mohinder bought into the Company hook, line, and sinker. Hasn’t Mohinder learned yet that the Company is not the do-gooder that they say they are? But then Bob plays such a convincing role that it might be hard for Mohinder to recognize their true colors. On the other hand, Noah Bennet’s hardballing hasn’t earned him much sympathy either. So now, Bennet is imprisoned inside the Company, Claire’s blood is in their hands, and Mohinder can not be trusted anymore.
Claire. She is probably the one person who stood up to the enemy around her. Grief has struck her and it is more painful than any of the physical dismemberment she allowed her body to go through. And maybe that same grief is where she will get her strength to fight back and save her family.
And once again, maybe the whole world. Get the cheerleader to save the world.
Hmm..
*** to be continued***
Contrary to the episode title, none of the heroes are in on the truth but they will reap the consequences, nonetheless. And that’s why we’re still hooked onto this show - we can’t wait for the heroes to get their acts together!
Next week, final episode to “Heroes Volume 2:Generations“, episode 2.11 “Powerless“
