Heroes episode 2.05 “The Kindness of Strangers” - recap

The fourth episode of Heroes continues to unravel the mystery of the Company, and the group of older generations of people with superhuman abilities.

Claire gets serious with West. The episode opens with Noah Bennet seeing his own future - via Isaac’s painting - his dead face staring back at him and Claire kissing a boy in the background. When Noah confronted his daughter about ’seeing a boy’ she denies this and ends up meeting him for a date on top of the Hollywood sign. Up there, West challenges Claire to trust him because he completely understands what she’s going through and she is not alone anymore. This of course, is exactly what Claire has been looking for since season 1 - to connect with someone like her, to reveal her identity and find acceptance. Will West be a dream come true or be too good to be true?

Micah’s adjusts with his family in New Orleans. Micah tries to fit in with his new life after mom Niki drops Micah off at his cousins in New Orleans. Cousin Monica Dawson is a hard-working, ambitious, waitress in a hamburger joint who plans to get out of The Big Easy by applying for a manager position. She begins to discover a new ‘talent’ - she can imitate and do whatever she sees on TV.

The Petrellis and Parkman join forces. Mama Petrelli confesses to killing Kaito Nakamura but talks to Matt with her thoughts for him to ‘back off’ and accept her confessions. Matt is surprised that she knows his abilities and tells Nathan about this discovery, admitting that he knows Nathan can fly. Matt shows the photograph of Angela and Kaito with the symbol marking their faces, and tells him Molly has been drawing the symbol and getting serious nightmares because of it. Nathan recognizes the photograph and shows Nathan a group picture of nine individuals - Nakamura, Devaeux, the Petrellis, Linderman, the new Company man Bob, a mystery woman and two men. Matt recognizes one of the unindentified men as his own father.

Matt Parkman’s past is revealed. We find out that Matt’s wife divorces him and is carrying the child of her infidelity. His father stole money from a lot of people and is on the run and hiding. The biggest shocker - when Matt asks Molly to track his dad - he turns out to be the little girls tormenter - Nightmare Man!

Sylar, Maya and Alejandro. When Maya and Alejandro escape from the Mexican police with Dexter, they encounter Gabriel/Sylar lying on the road, half-dead from exhaustion. The escapees give Sylar a ride and Maya gets into a conversation with him that may prove fatal for the twins. She shows him Chandra Suresh’s book and that gets the killer interested. Sylar kills Dexter and when he reveals that police are looking for the twins, Maya expresses her power and would have killed Sylar had not Alejandro calmed her down. Sylar’s killer clock gets ticking again. He tells the twins how he’s helped Suresh identify people like them, and promises to bring the twins to New York.
