Smallville 8.22 “Doomsday” recap

Smallville episode 8.22 "Doomsday"
Airdate: May 14, 2009
Now I remember why I hate watching Smallville’s season enders. They are so tragic!
OK before I say anything else, you really must watch the finale, before reading on, since we’re going to talk spoilers here. We’d love to read your comments too, especially since something very unexpected happens in this final episode of season 8.
So… ready? Let’s talk about what (and who) went down.
First it was cool to see cameos from both Legionnaire and League, but they aren’t here for a party.
Cosmic Boy Rokk Krinn travels from the future to warn Clark that saving Chloe’s life changed the future completely. My guess is he’s living an alternate reality now that Chloe is alive when she should have died with Brainiac. Saving Chloe made things worse for the future – Doomsday is even more invulnerable, and Clark is dead. Or will die in the immediate future, like, uhm… tomorrow. Thanks for the warning, dude!
Maybe the Legionnaires believe Clark can still change the future, even though Cosmic Boy himself said “there is nothing now that will stop Doomsday from killing Clark”… else why warn the guy that he’s about to get axed, and was long dead as far as the Legionnaires are concerned. Rokk gives Clark another time-travel ring to send Doomsday to the future where Legionnaires can defeat him. But of course, Clark wants to take care of it himself.
So the next day at the Daily Planet, a melancholic Clark Kent writes his farewell note to the world. In walks Lois demanding why Clark is not looking for Chloe! She gets curious about what Clark’s doing so she sneaks to peek at the monitor and then yaks about Clark shutting himself away in his fortress. She really knows how to get under his skin, doesn’t she? I guess that’s part of the chemistry/tension between Clark and Lois. Clark swooshes away and as The Red-Blue Blur, calls Lois to appease her. He asks her to publish his farewell letter if anything happens to him. Lois asks that she must see him, and for him to meet her in a phone booth downtown. In that classic moment, Lois broke through the “impenetrable fortress” and she didn’t even realize it.
Smallville Season 8 Finale Spoilers

Smallville episode 8.22 "Doomsday"

In two days, season 8 of Smallville will be over, but before the credits roll, several big “throwdowns” are going to happen! And I gotta warn you this post is all about SPOILERS, so if you’re allergic to it, better keep your nose out of the way…

The Smallville cast, season 8. (l-r) Erica Durance (Lois Lane), Sam Witwer (Davis Bloome), Aaron Ashmore (Jimmy Olsen), Allison Mack (Chloe Sullivan), Tom Welling (Clark Kent), Cassidy Freeman (Tess Mercer) and Justin Hartley (Oliver Queen). Image: © 2008 The CW Network, LLC. All Rights Reserved
We know since March that two characters are going to die this season’s end… Who of the following from above could they be? Eenie-minnie-mynie-moe…
But before we sound off, let’s see how they could possibly go down.
Clark will finally get to fight Doomsday, or is it that Doomsday will be throwing Clark around like a rag doll! The trailer sneaks that Clark will seem to have lost his powers! Man, that would just suck for the superman. How many before has Clark’s powers fail him just when he really needs it? Of course, Chloe has almost always been there to save her friend, so will she do it again this time? No doubt her loyalty lies with Clark, so maybe the love-struck Davis won’t like that at all.
Oh but there’s the warning from a Legionnaire that Clark is going to die! Major ‘uh-oh’.
And in the girl version of the fight camp, Tess and Lois are going to go at it too! It seems to have to do with an orb that Lois got hold of. And we know how possessive Tess can be about Veritas souvenirs.
Well, here are more spoilers from Kryptonsite and Spoilerfix… I can’t wait for Thursday! This is gonna be great!
- The promo trailer seems to be showing that Davis is going to be rid of Doomsday through the black kryptonite!
- Two characters are definitely going to die in this finale! And it could be Chloe, Davis, or someone else entirely.
- There are going to be some major “quintessential” Clark and Lois moments by season’s end.
- A special guest appearing in the final episode will return next season to cause big problems!
- According to Erica Durance the final episode will be “heartbreaking, surprising… and magical”
- Cassidy Freeman says Tess wants Clark to fight Doomsday because to her, that’s the only way he can become Superman.

Oliver Queen thinks Clark Kent is a wuss. In the Green Arrow’s mind, Clark is this super-powered alien who doesn’t care about really saving the world (read: get rid of the world’s villains) but only wants to save “his friends” and who has such a narrow view of his destiny. We heard Oliver push Clark many times to take up the mantle, and Clark always disappointed him.
Well, it looks like Oliver has had enough. If Clark can’t or won’t do it, then he will. Oliver got Lex killed, didn’t he, when Clark won’t lay a hand. And now there’s Doomsday that Clark is so worried about not killing that it must piss a hero like Green Arrow!
So, for the season finale this Thursday, Oliver is charging his Justice League to step in and take over. But first they have to get rid of Clark!
Get a hold of the promo pictures and see Black Canary, Impulse and Green Arrow take down Clark Kent. But how in the world did they do that?! Clark Kent is supposed to be invincible!

Uh-oh, it looks like Clark is in deep trouble! Justice League members Black Canary and Impulse/Bart Allen and the only time they show up is when Clark needs friends to save him! And Legion member Cosmic Boy is back from the future too!
From the season finale (Doomsday) trailer, it looks like Clark needs some serious help! Oliver really wants Davis Bloom dead, and will stop at nothing to kill the monster. And Cosmic Boy Rokk warns Clark that “tomorrow is your day to die”!!! Chloe’s going to intervene too, and if you look closely at the trailer, you’ll see that she might have separated Davis from his alter-ego Doomsday, all to save Clark, which Davis does not like at all!
And what’s the orb got to do with things now? Watch the trailer –
And what’s this?! Cosmic Boy comes back from the future to warn Clark that saving Chloe has jeopardized the superman’s own future!

Looks like there’s plenty of fighting and infighting on Smallville’s season finale! The season is finally reaching its climax and now, the big question on our minds is – will Clark defeat Doomsday?
Of course we know whatever kind of sparring the immortal enemies have will be just that – sparring session for the real fight later on, but still the producers can’t end the season without Clark and Davis/Doomsday packing punches!
And the episode description for the episode “Doomsday” exactly says that Clark and Doomsday are facing off! Not only that, Lois and Tess take it out on each other too!
Here’s the summary from CW -
CLARK AND DOOMSDAY FACE OFF — Oliver (Justin Hartley) tells Clark (Tom Welling) he must kill Davis (Sam Witwer), as Doomsday is a serious threat and must be stopped at all costs. However, Clark struggles with taking a human life, so the Green Arrow and his team decide to take matters into their own hands. Lois (Erica Durance) takes on Tess (Cassidy Freeman), but the fight takes a shocking turn. Meanwhile, Chloe (Allison Mack) gets caught in the middle of Oliver and Clark’s battle over killing Davis. Aaron Ashmore also stars. James Marshall directed the episode written by Brian Peterson & Kelly Souders
Smallville 8.21 “Injustice” tonight

Here’s the director’s cut for tonight’s episode in Smallville, “Injustice”, and unfortunately, it’s the same scene as the webclip. It shows Chloe being chased by a monster, or what sounds like Doomsday, through a forest and she calls out Clark’s name.
The friendship between Clark and Chloe is really interesting isn’t it? She calls for him and he’ll come running to her rescue. This episode is the last one before the finale for season 8, and I keep wondering who’s gonna fall. There’s always someone from Smallville who either dies or gets terribly hurt by season’s end.
Early in March it was spoiled that a vet and a newcomer are going to die. Later on, it’s that someone will leave and another dies. Speculations, anyone? If we’re to look at the greater Superman mythos, then Chloe must die, huh… and maybe Davis leaves? Or Tess Mercer?
Well, tonight might be a clue… or not… anyhow, here are some more info about episode “Injustice”. Enjoy the spoilers before the big show tonight!

CW released promo images for the Smallville episode Injustice, and it looks like Tess Mercer is in trouble! Plastique and a fellow meteor-freak tied Tess into a chair and seems to be interrogating her. In fact, they might be about to just kill her. Plastique has a sword pointed directly above Tess’ heart!
Nah, I don’t think Tess is any bit scared of them. Even without any superpowers, that girl is badass. No need to be worried about her. But I’d worry about Clark. These are meteor-infected people he’s dealing with after all, and he would be helpless and vulnerable around them.

Smallville 8.21 “Injustice” sneak peek
Smallville episode 8.21 "Injustice"
Airdate: May 7, 2009
Chloe believes that Davis will be able to control the beast within him if she stays by him all the time. No bathroom breaks even?! But it’s amazing that her presence really works wonders. Last week, Davis was just about to transform into Doomsday and probably harm Clark when Davis immediately calmed down. Maybe he smelled her before he even saw her…
So what is Chloe doing running away scared from Davis?! Here’s a sneak peek at a scene for this Thursday’s episode “Injustice” on Smallville -
I wonder what the scene before it was. Was Doomsday chasing Chloe, and about to kill her? Or was that an effect that one of the meteor-freaks did to make Chloe think she’s being chased? Whatever the case, the meteor-freaks used this to bring Clark to Chloe, and perhaps get him to fight Doomsday.
In the episode where Plastique first appeared, Chloe had been there for her and befriended her. But the girl thought that Chloe betrayed her. I wonder if Plastique thinks of this as payback, or did Tess Mercer seriously brainwash them all to do her bidding?

We all think of Clark as a man of integrity and principle, right. He’s sworn never to kill anyone, to give someone a second chance or the benefit of the doubt. In his mind, saving someone means pointing them to the light. That’s why Doomsday is still alive.
But Oliver told Clark how stupid he thinks this principle is, and especially now that Chloe has disappeared with Davis. Now, the world is still unsafe and at risk because Clark would not get rid of Davis… well, Clark almost did, until Chloe stopped him, which didn’t make sense to me. Didn’t Clark banish Davis’ mom back to the Phantom Zone?
Here’s the trailer for the Smallville episode “Injustice”, but I admit it’s a little confusing. I can’t seem to make out what this trailer wants to show.
Smallville 8.21 “Injustice” – description
Smallville episode 8.21 "Injustice"
Airdate: May 7, 2009
Last week, Davis thought that being around Chloe would keep the inner-demon under control. So the new couple decided to disappear in hopes that Smallville will be safe, and in Chloe’s mind – that Clark won’t have blood in his hands from killing Davis.
Unfortunately, that wish won’t last long. CW released the episode description for “Injustice” -
Chloe (Allison Mack) returns and begs Clark (Tom Welling) to kill Davis (Sam Witwer), claiming he can no longer keep the beast under control. Tess (Cassidy Freeman) has assembled a team of meteor freaks, including Plastique (guest star Jessica Parker Kennedy), to track down Davis so Clark can kill him. However, things get out of hand once Tess’ team discovers she is double-crossing them. Erica Durance, Aaron Ashmore and Justin Hartley also star. Mairzee Almas directed the episode written by Al Septian & Turi Meyer
So Tess Mercer interferes with Clark’s destiny, much like her predecessor Lex did. She believes that having a supervillain will push Clark to become a superhero. I guess it is so easy become obsessed with ‘pushing’ the superhero out of Clark, huh. Some, like Chloe want Clark’s hands to be kept clean, because he’s the people’s hero. Oliver is baffled, and probably thinks Clark a coward, because his friend can’t get past being a saint.
So Plastique comes back! Tess Mercer was successful creating her own team of anti-heroes. I wonder how she brainwashed them, but it looks like Tess’ plans are going to backfire. I’m not going to be sorry if that happens. Tess’ ways are no way to make Clark become superman!
