Wanted slid down to #4 after the July 4 weekend of Wall-E, Kung Fu Panda and Hancock. It’s decline was faster than feared when it dropped 60 percent down from a week ago. Still it grossed a total of $159.4 million since it opened on June 27.

I did watch Wanted today, choosing it over Hancock.

Maybe it’s the anticipated adrenalin rush from the trailers that attracted me, more than the feel-good emoting that I thought Hancock would offer. It’s R rating delivered with graphic violence from end to end. The movie reminds one of Matrix for its slowing-down effects and the shooting raid by McAvoy was reminiscent of Keanu Reeves when he attacked the The Merovingian’s building.

But although it wasn’t predictable, I think the story would have had no other ending than what happened. James McAvoy was believable as the nerdy nobody transformed into a killer-with-conscience. As the femme fatale Fox, Angelina Jolie was the heartless one. Angelina admitted she did get involved in sculpting her character so that explains why Fox turned the way she did. Was it worth watching? I probably should have spent my money on Wall-E.

Wanted opens next weekend at the box office and the cast are doing their rounds of interviews. Russian director Timur Bekmambetov talked exclusively with Superhero Hype about the movies – Night Watch and Day Watch- that brought him the attention of Universal executives for directing Wanted.

Although Wanted is a comic book adaptation of the same name, Bekmambetov took the liberty of changing some of the mythology but remained true to the tone of the original comics. “It was important for me to protect and to develop the ironic tone of the comic book and to save the unique character of Wesley was important,“ Bekmambetov tells Superhero Hype.

When told that the plot of Wanted sounded like “Mr. & Mrs. Smith” Angelina added that it’s really Mrs. Smith after she killed Mr. Smith, “went into depression and got very, very, very moody“. Well, Angelina wanted got the role because she was looking for something physical, where she can play being aggressive and get out of herself a little. This was right after her mom died and she had a baby. But her character Fox is someone who doesn’t get a thrill killing people, but does it because “she doesn’t have a life outside of (killing)”. With Angelina’s complex personality, she seems to be playing Fox very well.

Mark Millar’s comic adaptation Wanted is getting moviegoers buzzing. Some love the extreme action, others hate how it deviates from the original graphic novel. Either way, I think it’s worth watching.

Talk about multi-tasking! Here’s the latest trailer of the movie Wanted. There are some new, really cool scenes not found in the first trailer, like those of Angelina flipped over on the hood of her car while driving and shooting at someone. It’s too early to review it, but from the previews, this movie has a lot of Matrix flavors, don’t you think?

Wanted is loosely based on the graphic novel series by Mark Millar. It tells the transformation of a geeky nobody – Wesley Gibson (James McAvoy) – into a mythical assassin, who kill at the bidding of a secret society called Fates.

When Wesley’s estranged father was murdered, his partner Sloan (Morgan Freeman) recruits the young man to follow in his father’s footsteps and become one of a rare breed of assassins – men and women with lightning quick reflexes and phenomenal agility. Wesley is trained by the femme fatale Fox (Angelina Jolie) and teaches him to live by the code: to kill on the orders of Fates, weavers who read individuals’ destinies in fabrics produced by mystical looms.
