The most emotional moment of last night’s 2009 Oscars was Heath Ledger’s winning the Best Supporting Actor award!
Heath’s role as the Joker in “Dark Knight” was truly unforgettable. Heath had given the role his very all, and it felt like Heath knew this one would be difficult to top.
It was a bittersweet moment when sister Kate added “we proudly accept this award in behalf of your beautiful Matilda”.

"The Dark Knight" director Christopher Nolan talks about a sequel on the eve of its release on DVD and Blu-Ray.
Will there be another Batman movie?
Short answer is, no one knows yet. Nolan is doing rough outlines for a third story, but he hasn’t found one he’s willing to commit to film, he told USA Today.
"It was obvious when the box office was so big ($530 million domestically) that we had underestimated how ready fans were to reboot the franchise," he says. "The worst thing you could do now that you’ve gotten the plane back in the [...]
Post from: Superhero Profiles

Will there be another Batman movie?

Short answer is, no one knows yet. Nolan is doing rough outlines for a third story, but he hasn’t found one he’s willing to commit to film, he told USA Today.

"It was obvious when the box office was so big ($530 million domestically) that we had underestimated how ready fans were to reboot the franchise," he says. "The worst thing you could do now that you’ve gotten the plane back in the air is mess up the landing."

It’s not like this is the director’s first Batman film, but Nolan still finds the third installment a little hard to do. "Maybe there’s so much expectation to them. But I wouldn’t want to do one if it weren’t going to be as good as the first or second. That’s not respectful to the fans."

Fans appreciate that, for sure. So, meantime, let’s watch "The Dark Knight" over and over; it’s coming out on DVD and Blu-ray tomorrow December 9.

Unfortunately for me, I had my two young children with me and sitting for three hours would not make them happy. *sigh* Come January, just in time for the Academy Awards voting season, I hope to watch the film on IMAX!

Without a doubt, The Dark Knight is the most successful superhero movie, and may likely become the biggest-ever film at the domestic box office (now at $500 million and counting).
So naturally, ‘will there be a sequel’? Chris Nolan hasn’t signed on for anything, but if ever… who will play villain(s)?
It’s been rumored that Angelina Jolie wants in as Catwoman and Johnny Depp wants the Riddler. What about Harvey Dent’s Two-Face.

So naturally, ‘will there be a sequel’? Chris Nolan hasn’t signed on for anything, but if ever… who will play villain(s)?

CS/SHH!: Is Harvey Dent alive?
Aaron Eckhart: No. He is dead as a door nail.

Now in case we’re still thinking resurrection happens in the movies all the time, Eckhart confesses that Chris Nolan himself said Two-Face is never coming back to haunt Batman, at least not along The Dark Knight storyline. Eckhart is not signed up for more Batman movies either, citing problems with the negotiation. Dang, and just when fans finally find villains they can love! It’s too bad.

Aaron Eckhart is currently promoting his new indie film Towelhead, which opens in NY and LA on September 12, and to the rest of the theaters on September 26.

The 2006 film Superman Returns was a disappointment to Warner Bros. that company execs have decided to put both Superman: Man of Steel and Batman vs. Superman on hold. Instead, Warner Bros. wants “the next pack of superhero movies to be bathed in the same brooding tone as The Dark Knight.”

I first read this story at Superhero Hype that Warner Bros. has confirmed a reboot of “Superman“, similar to the strategy used to reboot Ang Lee’s Hulk. Warner Bros. Pictures Group President Jeff Robinov spoke to Wall Street Journal and explained that he wants to explore the evil side of the superheroes. “We’re going to try to go dark to the extent that the characters allow it,” he says.

What exactly does it mean to have a “brooding/dark” Superman? Someone with attitude? Several SHH readers commented that The Dark Knight is dark, because Batman is. That’s not how fans know Superman to be. Unless of course you’re talking Superman on red or black Kryptonite, but then that would be Smallville.

Movies featuring Wonder Woman, Green Arrow, Green Lantern and Flash are in development, so I wonder if these would also have similar darker tones as The Dark Knight. Warner Bros. plans on releasing comic-book films in the next few years, including a third Batman film, the rebooted Superman, and two other DC Comics characters.

“Dark Knight” actor Morgan Freeman needed to have surgery as a result of a horrific car crash Sunday night in Mississippi.
If this was in the movies, this would have been an awesome stunt. But in real life, it’s called a serious accident. Around 11:30 p.m. August 4th, Freeman was driving a Nissan Maxima when it veered off the highway and flipped several times before ending in a ditch near his home. Emergency crews had to use the ‘jaws of death’ to free the actor and a female passenger. Earlier reports said the actor was in serious condition, but Freeman’s [...]
Post from: Superhero Profiles

The question on everyone’s mind, is – who’s the lady passenger? The National Ledger has links to pictures and a tidbit of Freeman’s unlucky companion.

The worldwide success of The Dark Knight as a blockbuster is being overshadowed (or possibly enhanced?) by breaking news that lead actor Christian Bale was arrested for suspicious of assault.

Bale’s own mother Jenny and sister Sharon claimed the actor assaulted them on Sunday July 19. The London police interrogated Bale for 4 hours but released him on bail, with no charges filed. They even allowed Christian Bale to attend the European premiere in London’s Leicester Square on Monday.

Christian Bale denied the allegations. His mother and sister at first denied the incident but ‘fessed up after, only to say “there was a family situation… the police are handling the matter… we didn’t call the police to the scene…”

The press is definitely having a field day of it. UK’s GMTV thought Christian Bale looked on edge in this interview, the NY Post described it as “What a joker!”. He does look tense at the London red carpet, which was a huge difference when Bale appeared for The Dark Knight premiere in New York. Christian Bale plays Batman/Bruce Wayne in the darker interpretation by Christopher Nolan of the Batman story.

Without a doubt, Batman has some of the more famous villains in all of supeherodom - The Joker, Catwoman, Scarecrow, Poison Ivy, Mr. Freeze to name a few. Most of these villains appeared in both television and film, some of them were played by different actors.
In a tribute to the Cape Crusader and the villains he has fought, Time.com compiled this photo gallery of “Batman Battling the Bad Guys” beginning way back 1949. Television then was in black-and-white, which really didn’t make much difference to the bat-suit.
