According to an exclusive from EW’s Ausiello, Brandon Routh will be joining the NBC spy comedy in a multi-arc episode this season. Routh’s character will be the mysterious new leader of Operation Bartowski, and becomes Chuck’s new mentor, and both will be going after Sarah’s affection.

Now of course I report this because of Brandon’s ties to Superman, and he’ll be playing someone entirely different than his superhero character. It will be interesting to see Routh stretch his acting muscles again. But I’m also a fan of CHUCK (plus, it used to air before HEROES) so I’ll be following the first four episodes!

Can we wait until March 2010?

Alexz Johnson as Saturn Girl Imra Ardeen. Imra founded the Legion of Superheroes, a group of teenage superheroes from the future. From the promo trailer, it looks like Smallville will stick to the comics mythos of how Clark (as Superboy) inspired futuristic teenagers into becoming heroes.

As a 17-year old, Superman creator Jerry Siegel dreamt of the idea of the greatest hero of time in a little house that is painted red and blue (for real!). Unfortunately, this house in Cleveland is now in shambles. The city government won’t recognize it, not even a plaque to say “This is where Superman was created” much more have it repaired. So the website “Ordinary People Change The World” teamed up with Jerry Siegel’s wife and family, and many other artists to auction off Superman memorabilia, original artwork, or a walk-on role in “Heroes”.

Some of the items to bid are:

• A walk-on part on the TV show Heroes (bid here)
• A previously secret Superman T-shirt signed by Superman co-creator Jerry Siegel (bid here)
• Be a character in Mark Millar’s War Heroes (bid here)

The one-week auction ends September 30, 2008.

I first read this story at Superhero Hype that Warner Bros. has confirmed a reboot of “Superman“, similar to the strategy used to reboot Ang Lee’s Hulk. Warner Bros. Pictures Group President Jeff Robinov spoke to Wall Street Journal and explained that he wants to explore the evil side of the superheroes. “We’re going to try to go dark to the extent that the characters allow it,” he says.

What exactly does it mean to have a “brooding/dark” Superman? Someone with attitude? Several SHH readers commented that The Dark Knight is dark, because Batman is. That’s not how fans know Superman to be. Unless of course you’re talking Superman on red or black Kryptonite, but then that would be Smallville.

Movies featuring Wonder Woman, Green Arrow, Green Lantern and Flash are in development, so I wonder if these would also have similar darker tones as The Dark Knight. Warner Bros. plans on releasing comic-book films in the next few years, including a third Batman film, the rebooted Superman, and two other DC Comics characters.

Smallville season 8 will introduce Superman’s undefeated enemy, the formidable, unstoppable destroyer DOOMSDAY! Doomsday was created in Krypton’s distant past, when only the brutally strong survived. Comic fans will never forget the day he killed Superman.

But Doomsday isn’t the only enemy Clark will be facing. A new female villain will rise up in season 8, someone “gorgeous, brilliantly manipulative, and dangerously sinister”. Her mutual attraction with Clark may prove as deadly as kryptonite for him.

Executive producers are tight-lipped about the identity of this female nemesis and they are still casting.

Brandon Routh

(I hate to say the “new Clark Kent”, ‘coz in our minds, Tom Welling IS.).. anyway, so Brandon Routh is still going to play Superman/Clark Kent in the sequel “Superman: Man of Steel“.

There is no schedule for the movie, yet, but Routh says they might be working on the movie next year since director Bryan Singer is back in the States again and looking at how he wants to tell the story. So in the meantime, Routh has kept himself busy with his new movie “Lie to Me” and life as a newly married man to wife Courtney Ford.

Comingsoon.net caught up with Routh and asked about his thoughts for Superman: Man of Steel. Routh mentioned how he thought Clark was funny and would want to see Clark doing more humorous takes on the movie. He’d love to see Clark and Jimmy scenes too, funny ones.

CS: What sides of Superman and Clark Kent are you excited about exploring in the sequel?
Routh: Well, I think that something that audiences are looking for – and I certainly am, too – is for Superman to actually be able to lay a punch on someone or something. I was filming and I thought, “I haven’t really hit anything. I feel like I’m going to need to let some of this anger out.” So I’m happy that I think that’s going to be a central part of the sequel, getting a good villain that we can actually have physical altercations with.

And you know, he is right! Superman Returns didn’t have much action in the way of testing Clark’s strength to the limit. Well, yeah there were those scenes with Lex’s thugs, but kryptonite was to blame. I would love to see Superman fighting with all his might, just like the comics portrays it.

On another angle, like most of fandom, Brandon Routh wants Lois and Clark still ending up together. They do have a son together. Won’t it be neat to actually have father and son fighting crime together! “Superman and son” – any producer taking that?

On February 26, 2008, Warner Home Video is releasing the DVD “Justice League” New Frontier” which explores the origins of the Justice League.

We grew up watching these superheroes on television- Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, Martian Manhunter, The Flash and many others – and now we get to see them in action when they formed the formidable JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA! (Can you hear the soundtrack)

Here is a brief synopsis of the release -

“Inspired by the best-selling graphic novel by Darwyn Cooke and produced by the multiple Emmy® award winning animation legend, Bruce Timm, The New Frontier is the epic tale of the founding of the Justice League.
