Some fans noticed 17 mistakes already. Some of my favorites:

• When showing Rhodes the big reactor, Tony takes off his sling. In the next shot he has it back on. It goes on and off a total of four times.
• When Iron Man and Iron Monger are fighting, Iron Man catches the SUV, and you can see the family inside the car. Although the car is completely vertical, the hair of the people in the car seem to defy gravity.
• When Iron Man catches the Audi SUV, the front wings/fenders don’t bend when he catches it, the car weighs close to 2 tons, some damage should occur to them as they are made of such thin metal.
• When Stark is paralysed his fringe keeps changing style all the time.
• After Stark is paralysed and slightly recovers, he goes to get his energy. Right then the blood arond his left ear has vanished. Being seconds away from dying, the last thing he would think of is taking a shower.

Wanted slid down to #4 after the July 4 weekend of Wall-E, Kung Fu Panda and Hancock. It’s decline was faster than feared when it dropped 60 percent down from a week ago. Still it grossed a total of $159.4 million since it opened on June 27.

I did watch Wanted today, choosing it over Hancock.

Maybe it’s the anticipated adrenalin rush from the trailers that attracted me, more than the feel-good emoting that I thought Hancock would offer. It’s R rating delivered with graphic violence from end to end. The movie reminds one of Matrix for its slowing-down effects and the shooting raid by McAvoy was reminiscent of Keanu Reeves when he attacked the The Merovingian’s building.

But although it wasn’t predictable, I think the story would have had no other ending than what happened. James McAvoy was believable as the nerdy nobody transformed into a killer-with-conscience. As the femme fatale Fox, Angelina Jolie was the heartless one. Angelina admitted she did get involved in sculpting her character so that explains why Fox turned the way she did. Was it worth watching? I probably should have spent my money on Wall-E.

His new movie Hancock opened a week ago and it stayed at No. 1 domestically AND internationally on its opening weekend. Depends on what you read, the superhero film made over anywhere from $103 million to $186 million worldwide.

Good numbers, right? Not so says some box office analysts.

It’s predicted that <em>Hancock </em>will not break the $300 million mark. Reviews have been mixed, with mostly a B+ grade from audiences. Hmm, I say that Will Smith has bigger problems in his hands right now, than worrying about Hancock’s performance in theaters. His daughter Willow Smith’s movie Kit Kittredge: An American Girl, which opened on the same day totally bombed. Yeah, girl, blame in on dad.

“An absolute stunner!” – The Rollingstone

Batman fever is on! Showing in just a few weeks, Christian Bale’s The Dark Knight… (and shall I say Heath Ledger’s Joker) is getting very good early reviews! The Rollingstone has nothing but praise for all the major actors in the movie.

The Dark Knight, director Christopher Nolan’s absolute stunner of a follow-up to 2005’s Batman Begins, is a potent provocation decked out as a comic-book movie.

Now beware of spoilers before you make the jump!

To sum up the Rollingstone review, Director Nolan and his brother Jonathan deftly wrote the script to bring the struggle with good versus evil into epic proportions. Classic to all superheroes and those entrusted with “great responsibility”, Bruce Wayne has had it with living the vigilante life. “Christian Bale is electrifying as a fallibly human crusader at war with his own conscience”.

But clearly, it is Heath Ledger’s last dance as the Joker that gets everyone into fan-frenzy mode.

I can only speak superlatives of Ledger, who is mad-crazy-blazing brilliant as the Joker. Ledger’s Joker has no gray areas — he’s all rampaging id. It’s typical of Ledger’s total commitment to films as diverse as Brokeback Mountain and I’m Not There that he does nothing out of vanity or the need to be liked. If there’s a movement to get him the first posthumous Oscar since Peter Finch won for 1976’s Network, sign me up.

The supporting cast are hardly out of limelight, praises Rollingstone. “Every actor brings his A game to show the lure of the dark side”. There are also some spoilers coming out of the review –

• a secret kept by Alfred the butler could crush his boss’ spirit.
• a major character dies that pushes a do-gooder into the dark side.
• one more of Batman’s enemy emerges from the chaos

With reviews like this and the trailers to whet our appetite, this summer is gearing to welcome another blockbuster!

Director Steven Spielberg is known for keeping a tight lid on advance reviews of his films. But as early as May 10, the New York Times reported that an theater executive, who had seen an advanced screen of “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull “, only had harsh criticisms for Spielberg’s latest Indian Jones. To quote –

“This is the Indiana Movie that you were dreading.”

Now that the movie is finally here, I’m reading reviews from news networks everywhere and the reviews have been a mixture. Rotten Tomatoes, which compiles reviews, gave it only a 79%. I would have expected more from a Spielberg-Lucas tandem.

Melbourne Australia’s Herald Sun wrote that the fans will not be disappointed with Indiana Jones’ return to the big screen… “However, they will not be absolutely dazzled, either.” The UK’s Telegraph thought the movie was great until about halfway, when it seemed that the writers hurried the story along. Several other reviewers expressed the same tone. Is the appeal of Indiana Jones wearing thin?

Indiana Jones himself – Harrison Ford – is a little worn down, and he admits that in the film too. He’s a little slower, but to his advantage still as quick-witted as when he was younger. Now I’m not sure if it would have been better to play up his age a little more, maybe to add humor (?), but certainly address his long absence. Now Indiana Jones has never been about his love, and this one isn’t either. In fact, I wasn’t sure why the character Marion Ravenwood was revived at all… well, except for one thing maybe.

Steven Spielberg was quoted as saying he didn’t want too much computer graphics on this movie, because he wanted it to have the same feel as the previous films. Unfortunately, the movie goers’ tastes have dramatically changed since Indy ruled the screen in the 1980s. I don’t know that we’ve become necessarily sophisticated, but we definitely have bought into CGI so much that we want an action/adventure movie to feel like the IMAX, like we are part of the movie and not just watching it. We don’t mind that the plot was in the 1950s, we just don’t want it to feel like we’re watching a ’50s movie.

Still, when it comes down to money, MarketWatch writes that the fourth Indiana movie could still come home a winner, if moviegoers come back to it after the Memorial Day holiday.
