"The Dark Knight" director Christopher Nolan talks about a sequel on the eve of its release on DVD and Blu-Ray.
Will there be another Batman movie?
Short answer is, no one knows yet. Nolan is doing rough outlines for a third story, but he hasn’t found one he’s willing to commit to film, he told USA Today.
"It was obvious when the box office was so big ($530 million domestically) that we had underestimated how ready fans were to reboot the franchise," he says. "The worst thing you could do now that you’ve gotten the plane back in the [...]
Post from: Superhero Profiles

Will there be another Batman movie?

Short answer is, no one knows yet. Nolan is doing rough outlines for a third story, but he hasn’t found one he’s willing to commit to film, he told USA Today.

"It was obvious when the box office was so big ($530 million domestically) that we had underestimated how ready fans were to reboot the franchise," he says. "The worst thing you could do now that you’ve gotten the plane back in the air is mess up the landing."

It’s not like this is the director’s first Batman film, but Nolan still finds the third installment a little hard to do. "Maybe there’s so much expectation to them. But I wouldn’t want to do one if it weren’t going to be as good as the first or second. That’s not respectful to the fans."

Fans appreciate that, for sure. So, meantime, let’s watch "The Dark Knight" over and over; it’s coming out on DVD and Blu-ray tomorrow December 9.

The 2006 film Superman Returns was a disappointment to Warner Bros. that company execs have decided to put both Superman: Man of Steel and Batman vs. Superman on hold. Instead, Warner Bros. wants “the next pack of superhero movies to be bathed in the same brooding tone as The Dark Knight.”

I first read this story at Superhero Hype that Warner Bros. has confirmed a reboot of “Superman“, similar to the strategy used to reboot Ang Lee’s Hulk. Warner Bros. Pictures Group President Jeff Robinov spoke to Wall Street Journal and explained that he wants to explore the evil side of the superheroes. “We’re going to try to go dark to the extent that the characters allow it,” he says.

What exactly does it mean to have a “brooding/dark” Superman? Someone with attitude? Several SHH readers commented that The Dark Knight is dark, because Batman is. That’s not how fans know Superman to be. Unless of course you’re talking Superman on red or black Kryptonite, but then that would be Smallville.

Movies featuring Wonder Woman, Green Arrow, Green Lantern and Flash are in development, so I wonder if these would also have similar darker tones as The Dark Knight. Warner Bros. plans on releasing comic-book films in the next few years, including a third Batman film, the rebooted Superman, and two other DC Comics characters.

The new Batman movie “The Dark Knight” hits theaters in two weeks (July 18, 2008). It’s the 7th Batman film since “Batman: The Movie” came out in 1966. Even though The Dark Knight has the 5th Batman and the 3rd Joker, this might be the best of the lot, if early reviews mean anything.
To join in the anticipation, I’m giving away one set of LEGO® Batman™ Robin’s Scuba Jet: Attack of the Penguin. It’s the first of the LEGO Batman series to feature Robin alone.
