Here are three video clips for Friday’s episode on SMALLVILLE titled “Idol” featuring the Wonder Twins Zan and Jayna and their famous fist bump.

So the Blur has unsolicited help, and you guess it – the Wonder Twins! Unfortunately, it looks like they blotched five saves all in the name (or symbol) of the Blur.

It would be interesting to find out who or what the twins are doing in Smallville. Super Friends’ fans know they’re alien teenagers from the planet Exxor, who are being trained by the Friends into superheroes. Zan can transform into any state of water and increase his mass by combining with existing water sources. Jayna can transform into an animal and in this trailer Jayna becomes a cheetah, one of her classic transformations.

And hey, Lois is back! She bolted last week when Clark kissed her unexpectedly the episode before last. It must be a little awkward at the Planet, but knowing Lois she will throw off that kiss as something insignificant.

Clark must be pretty pissed to have impostors running around in Metropolis the way he stopped their transformation. But I can’t blame him. It looks like they’re going to put him in trouble with their amateur saves. But can you really blame them, or anyone else who idolizes the Blur?

And a sneak peek of the twins transforming with their fist bump. By the way, they don’t carry the “Wonder Twins” name yet.

DC COMICS “THE WONDER TWINS” SHOW UP TO HELP CLARK CLEAN UP METROPOLIS — Superhero twins Zan (guest star David Gallagher) and Jayna (guest star Allison Scagliotti) show up in Metropolis to help The Blur fight crime but end up botching several rescues, landing Clark (Tom Welling) in hot water with the District Attorney’s office.  Clark decides to come forward as the Blur to clear his name.  Allison Mack, Erica Durance, Justin Hartley, Cassidy Freeman and Callum Blue also star.  Glenn Winter directed the episode written by Ann Coffel Saunders. 

OK, so this episode pre-dates the Super Friends/Justice League but that’s cool. We still get to see the twins’ powers! According to Keck’s Exclusives, twins purple-attired Zan and Jayna will activate into an ice sheet and a cougar. And we’ll even get to see Gleek, the Wonder Twins’ mischievous blue monkey.

I really tried not to swoon over this photo of Lois and Clark but I can’t help it! We know Lois and Clark are secretly starting to like each other, and a fan always hopes that one day… soon enough… but this soon!

It looks like Clark and Lois’ relationship are progressing to the next level! You’ll immediately notice that in the summary released for this episode –

OLIVER TAKES DC COMICS’ CHARACTER SPEEDY UNDER HIS WING — Oliver (Justin Hartley) tries to help a young street girl, Mia AKA Speedy (guest star Elise Gatien), get out of her dangerous life by offering to train her, but Mia double crosses him.  Lois (Erica Durance) asks Clark (Tom Welling) to help her land a job as an on-air television host, but the two are shocked when the station wants to hire them as a team. Allison Mack, Cassidy Freeman and Callum Blue also star.  Mike Rohl directed the episode written by Holly Henderson and Mike Whitehead

I think Lois will make a good TV host! But it’s a surprise how Clark made the team, although thinking about it, it could be the chemistry between the couple that makes their relationship click. I wonder what Chloe thinks of all this, though. Anyway, that’s the drama of Smallville.

On to the superhero stuff. Fans familiar with Green Arrow comic will know Speedy to be Green Arrow’s sidekick. The DC comics superhero was originally a teenage male, but a female version appeared in 2001.  She is known as Mia Dearden, an HIV-positive teenage runaway who was molested by her father. She fell into a prostitution ring where Green Arrow rescued her after he himself “returned from the dead”. Green Arrow trained Mia to be an archer but would not make her his sidekick for fear of putting the teenager into harm’s way.

It looks like Mia Dearden will appear in two episodes this season, the first in “Crossfire” and the second time in “Disciple”.

I have the Marvel DVD Comic Book Collection for X-MEN Volumes 3 and 4 … and boy did I have a marathon watching 28 episodes!

But it’s all good, and it was worth it. These episodes are a must-see if you are a fan of the X-Men comic book. The episodes have been created from the pages of the original Marvel comic books, and you will get nostalgic and remember the series like when you were a kid (did I just give away my age group?). For starters, there’s the signature introductory soundtrack and X-MEN running towards the Brotherhood of Mutants. And then the animation is cartoon/comic-book-like, not CG, mind you. Younger audiences might initially find this as boring, but they will soon get hooked as the stories unravel.

The heart of Volume 3 is the story of the Dark Phoenix, and her sage was quite suspenseful. Most of Volume 4 is about Apocalypse, a dangerous mutant driven mad by his powers, and the epic “Beyond Good and Evil” has a surprising conclusion, which I will not spoil.

Total run time for Volume 3 is 345 minutes and volume 4 is 322 minutes, so get yourself a nice comfy theater seat and enjoy an action-packed Marvel DVD Comic Book Collection. Suggested retail price is $23.99 US/$29.99 Canadian, but on Amazon.com, the X-Men, Volume Three (Marvel Comic Book Collection) is only $16.99 and the X-Men, Volume Four (Marvel Comic Book Collection) is $17.49.

But it was an X-MEN so of course waited for the DVD, which came out on September 15. And I don’t understand what the negative feel is about!  I certainly thought the film was a splendid prequel to the X-Men series, particularly Wolverine’s origins and history. I didn’t religiously follow X-Men in the early days so I was only familiar with Wolverine’s background, but the movie put the missing pieces together for me – who he was, why Victor Creed/Sabretooth loves to hate him,  how he lost his memory, and of course what the Weapons X program was all about. Now I don’t know if there were any discrepancies between the comics and this film, but X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE tied in well with the earlier X-Men film franchises. I wish they would make prequels of all the major characters on X-Men!

The only fault I see is that even at 107 minutes long, X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE was not enough to cover Wolverine’s past life in more detail. But that’s really a fault of cramming a legend into film. If Wolverine’s life was played out in the comics, it might have been drawn out longer.

I got the single-disc DVD with an extra “Wolverine Unleashed: The Complete Origins” featurette which was basically about Hugh Jackman’s role as producer and the title role. Belatedly, I should have gotten the Ultimate 2-Disc DVD instead, for 5$ more, since it had more features and extras.

So here is a listing of what you can find inside the 2-disc special edition and the blu-ray disc. If you’re into features, the extra discs would be worth it. I think the DVD is worth owning too, if you follow the X-Men saga.

Have I told you I grew up watching ASTROBOY? This was one of the television manga shows that my siblings and I watched right after school, along with VOLTES 5, G-FORCE, and VOLTRON! Talk about nostalgia. So I am just thrilled that ASTROBOY finally makes its debut on the big screen!

ASTROBOY is one of those characters that children can easily relate to. The story and film is about scientist Dr. Tenma who creates a young robot, Astro, who has incredible powers. Astro is powered by a positive “blue” energy and has super-strength, x-ray vision, super-speed and can fly… yeah, you can say he is the anime-version of a young Superman. Astro’s relationship with his adoptive father-scientist Dr. Tenma is the cord that makes Astro “human”. And in his adventures and mischief, the young robot learns to understand what being human means, and how to be a hero. And in the anime-film that will arrive in theaters on October 23, we get treated to all that wonderful story again, but this time in full CGI glory.

The film ASTROBOY stars Freddie Highmore in the title role. Nicholas Cage is Dr. Tenma. The powerhouse cast also includes Kristen Bell, Nathan Lane, Eugene Levy, Matt Lucas, Bill Nighy, Donald Sutherland and Nicolas Cage, Samuel L. Jackson & Charlize Theron.

Iron Man, X-Men, the Fantastic Four, and even the Hulk will now be calling Disney Studios as “home” if the plans for a Disney acquisition of Marvel Entertainment pushes through, reports the Associated Press this morning. It looks like all 5,000 Marvel characters could be owned by Disney if its shareholders say OK to the deal.

It would look weird seeing the shining castle of  Cinderella and a twinkling Tinker Bell introduce a movie starring the Avengers though. But who knows it might be good for the viewing public. At the very least, news of the planned purchase drove Marvel shares up to $50 today.

PONYO is the story of a girl-goldfish who wanted to become human. Sounds like Disney’s “ARIAL”? Actually it doesn’t. I watched the trailer below and was impressed by the story and animation. It’s very cartoonish, not at all CG, but it it’s still great quality. It’s certainly something I would like my kids to watch.

The animation is adapted from the Japanese film PONYO and is written/directed by Hayao Miyazaki.  PONYO opens in theaters August 14 under Disney/Sony.
