Brandon Routh talks "Superman: Man of Steel"

Brandon Routh is the “new Superman”.

(I hate to say the “new Clark Kent”, ‘coz in our minds, Tom Welling IS.).. anyway, so Brandon Routh is still going to play Superman/Clark Kent in the sequel “Superman: Man of Steel“.

There is no schedule for the movie, yet, but Routh says they might be working on the movie next year since director Bryan Singer is back in the States again and looking at how he wants to tell the story. So in the meantime, Routh has kept himself busy with his new movie “Lie to Me” and life as a newly married man to wife Courtney Ford.

Comingsoon.net caught up with Routh and asked about his thoughts for Superman: Man of Steel. Routh mentioned how he thought Clark was funny and would want to see Clark doing more humorous takes on the movie. He’d love to see Clark and Jimmy scenes too, funny ones.

CS: What sides of Superman and Clark Kent are you excited about exploring in the sequel?
Routh: Well, I think that something that audiences are looking for – and I certainly am, too – is for Superman to actually be able to lay a punch on someone or something. I was filming and I thought, “I haven’t really hit anything. I feel like I’m going to need to let some of this anger out.” So I’m happy that I think that’s going to be a central part of the sequel, getting a good villain that we can actually have physical altercations with.

And you know, he is right! Superman Returns didn’t have much action in the way of testing Clark’s strength to the limit. Well, yeah there were those scenes with Lex’s thugs, but kryptonite was to blame. I would love to see Superman fighting with all his might, just like the comics portrays it.

On another angle, like most of fandom, Brandon Routh wants Lois and Clark still ending up together. They do have a son together. Won’t it be neat to actually have father and son fighting crime together! “Superman and son” - any producer taking that?
